A 2004 US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks speculated Dubai’s casino plans had “been put on ice due to deference” to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country’s first president after unification in 1971.
“As our nation’s founder, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, taught us, water is not simply a commodity; it is our lifeblood,” remarked H.E. Almheiri.
Built in the 1890s on the orders of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, also known as Zayed the First, over the decades it served as a home to members of the ruling Al Nahyan family.
