Independent public health experts say water and soil are also likely contaminated with dioxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and other similar dangerous compounds.
Researchers found that people with the highest levels of chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons — also given off by cigarette smoke and gas cookers — had the highest risk of the inflammatory disease.
The Health Department said it will continue to analyze the results to assess any potential risks from other contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), Dioxins and others.
