I am writing in support of the Pine Tree Amendment (L.D. 928), a bill in the Legislature that would enshrine into Maine’s constitution the right to clean air, clean water and a healthy environment for all people.
In Maine, residents are expected to next year on a proposal to change the Pine Tree State’s flag from its current coat of arms to the widely known and displayed image of a white flag emblazoned with a pine tree and blue star.

Our Power wants to change this with the creation of the Pine Tree Power Company, a local, consumer-owned utility that would serve the needs of Maine people.
Passing the referendum for the consumer-owned Pine Tree Power would allow Mainers to enter the 21st century at last.
Pine Tree Power initiative language includes a reference to not using any “state funds or tax dollars.”
Pine Tree Power would contract out for a its transmission and distribution system.
Pine Tree Shoppes Bookmobile’s last day of service is Dec. 15. It will resume on Jan.
Please consider voting “yes” on the ballot initiative this November to replace CMP and Versant with Maine’s first statewide, consumer-owned utility, Pine Tree Power.
Question 3 asks the people of Maine to approve a public takeover of the state’s utility transmission companies (CMP and Versant), and to create the Pine Tree Power Company.
