President Donald Trump was a stern critic of the New START agreement, reportedly the issue in his first call with Putin as president in 2017 and publicly demanding a new agreement that also includes China.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday Russia had gained new opportunities to guarantee its security from suspending its participation in the New START control treaty, the TASS news agency reported.
The decision to restore Russia’s participation in New START can only be made by Putin, according to TASS.
