Runners were greeted at the finish line by NEAS staff and supporters, ready with snacks and refreshments, as well as by masseuse Ali Stephenson from Massera Therapies, who volunteered her skills to help participants recover from the challenge.
She was also assisted by an off-duty paramedic from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), who offered medical assistance.
The incident comes just five months after a critical report was published into how NEAS ambulance workers had covered up failings and withheld evidence from inquests.
