Helen Cartwright, a secretary at Wilkes Partnership’s Solihull office, nominated the charity after her mum, Margaret Nicholls (75), was supported by Marie Curie when she was diagnosed with Stage four Metastatic Lung Cancer in September 2020.
Marie Curie helps people with any illness they are likely to die from including Alzheimer’s (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, and advanced cancer.
Marie Curie is dependent on public donations and last year the money raised helped the charity provide direct care to more than 46,000 people across the UK via its nine hospices and through overnight nursing care in people’s own homes.
Marie Curie may have broken barriers in science, but her lab was far from glamorous.
