A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “We have been working tirelessly to find a long-term solution to the landslip risks at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful.
Dunrod Road has been susceptible to landslip and movement over a number of years, and remedial repairs have been carried out.
“Prior to Storm Babet we were finalising plans to reopen the road to a single lane of traffic past the area next to the landslip.
The full closure will cause further disruption to motorists in the area, given the road is long in need of repair after being affected by a landslip in 2014.
There was heavy rain on Saturday night in the Bay of Plenty, which led to at least one Tauranga home being destroyed by a landslip, residents being evacuated and more road closures.

Trains will be able to call at Hook, Winchfield, and Fleet stations again, however trains from London will not call at Hook due to the position of the landslip.
While the landslip is cleared, a very limited rail replacement bus service will operate between Winchester and Basingstoke.
