MANILA, Philippines— There is no phaseout of traditional jeepneys even after the new December 31 deadline for them to consolidate their routes and join cooperatives, transport officials assured senators on Thursday.
One driver said: “If they phase out jeepneys, many will lose their livelihood and starve.
So far, the LTFRB said the subsidies have been distributed to operators and drivers of traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs), modern PUJs, public utility buses, mini-buses, tourist transport services, school transport services, and Filcabs.

“These TODs will serve as the backbone of the transportation network, effectively connecting to feeder systems, such as jeepneys and buses,” BCDA said.
This, according to Paches, is based on the number of jeepneys that actively renew their franchise with the LTFRB.
This is in protest of the approaching deadline for the consolidation of traditional public utility jeepneys on December 31.
