Officers will continue seeking voluntary acquisition alongside the compulsory purchase order (CPO) process as acquiring land by agreement where possible is seen as the best option.
The new law will allow officials to buy land under compulsory purchase orders without having to factor in the “hope value” – a massive price premium granted to any land on which developers hope to secure planning permission.
You could also use compulsory purchase to buy back some empty homes and put appropriate ones into council and housing association ownership for social rent.
