In a shock for Europe, anti-Islam populist Geert Wilders records a massive win in Dutch electionsnbcnews.
Inspector Beverley Wilders said the proposed building would be bigger than both the care facility and nearby homes and a “dominant feature” which would be harmful to the character and appearance of the area.
The question now, though, is whether any other parties are willing to join Wilders to form a coalition.
The result will send shockwaves throughout Europe, where far-right ideology is on the rise, and puts Mr Wilders in line to lead talks to form the next governing coalition and possibly become the first far-right prime minister of the Netherlands.
Wilders has taken a more moderate tone since.
Wilders — who has previously praised Vladimir Putin but has in recent weeks the Russian president, calling him a “terrible dictator” — says his country should cut off military support to Ukraine.
Wilders will have to form a coalition with other parties to reach a majority in parliament (or try to govern with a minority), and in politics that always entails compromises to be able to work together.
