Shillong, Jan 20: Senior leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Bindo Lanong today lambasted the party leadership and said he had decided to contest Assembly elections from Nongkrem as an independent even though the party has denied ticket to him.

Significantly, however, polling for the Sohiong Assembly constituency was postponed following the demise of the State's former Home Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate from the seat HDR Lyngdoh.
Stating that his views are personal, he said, “The UDP had listed, as number one in its manifesto, the change of reservation policy.
“The message has gone that the UDP is not just for the Khasis but for all communities and that, if given the mandate, we can address their grievances by removing red-tape,” Mr. Lyngdoh said.
