A new photo appearing to show Russian General Sergei Surovikin, who disappeared from public view following a short-lived mutiny by Wagner mercenary fighters in June, has been published on the social media account of a prominent Russian media personality.

Asked by The Associated Press if the president still trusts Surovikin, he replied that Putin works with the defense minister and the chief of the General Staff and referred questions about officers to the Defense Ministry.

Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, citing an anonymous source, reported that Gen Surovikin has been replaced as commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces by Colonel General Viktor Afzalov, who is currently head of the main staff of the air force.
