Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah assumed power in 2020, after the death of the previous emir, who was also his half-brother.

Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah was admitted to hospital in November with an unspecified illness.
