Fertiliser Association of Malawi executive administrator Mbawaka Phiri said there is a combined 326 712MT of fertiliser at Mozambique’s Indian Ocean ports of Beira and Nacala, but delivery to Malawi is dependent on the companies sourcing foreign exchange.

Meanwhile, Illovo communications and stakeholder relations manager Olive Kawelama agreed that the port is a viable route for transporting cargo, but urged Nacala Logistics, the concessionaires of the rail line, to be more efficient in their operations.
