Justin McCamphill from the NASUWT said teachers were prepared to strike if they don’t receive the same level of pay as colleagues in England.
Last month, both the EIS and NASUWT unions rejected an offer that would see a 6% increase for all staff earning up to £80,000 backdated to April 2022, and a further 5.5% rise from this April.
Meanwhile, teachers from the NASUWT union in England plan to continuous action short of strikes starting in September, although its members could still walk out in the autumn if the row continues.
Ms Somerville has urged members of the EIS, NASUWT and SSTA unions, which are all involved in a row over pay, to “reconsider their plans for industrial action while talks are ongoing”.
NASUWT general secretary Dr Patrick Roach said: “We have asked our members for their views on the latest pay proposals which include marginal improvements over what was previously on the table.
NASUWT members are also involved in the dispute and its general secretary, Patrick Roach, had condemned the latest offer from Scottish Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville as “only a paltry improvement” on the previous proposal.
NASUWT members went on strike at Hutchesons’ on May 30 and 31 over the school’s policy of firing teachers who refused a new pension plan and offering to rehire them with new terms.
The NASUWT has also raised concerns over how social media platforms are "contributing to a behaviour crisis in schools".
