City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they have noted with concern the warning from Saws and urged residents to exercise extreme caution during the scorching weather.

“Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving and keep a safe following distance and avoid crossing flooded low-lying bridges/roads,” said Mulaudzi.

Mr Mulaudzi said the search for survivors is a challenge because the previously abandoned building is now an ‘informal settlement’ where homeless people live without any contracts or agreements.
