David Lochridge, OceanGate’s director of marine operations, in a 2018 lawsuit that the company’s testing and certification was insufficient and would “subject passengers to potential extreme danger in an experimental submersible.”
David Lochridge, OceanGate's former director of marine operations, claimed wrongful dismissal after flagging worries about the company's alleged 'refusal to conduct critical, non-destructive testing of the experimental design.'
During a meeting with OceanGate’s top brass the following day, Mr Lochridge recommended OceanGate voluntarily apply for regulation and classification through an independent agency such as the American Bureau of Shipping.
In particular, Lochridge was concerned about the materials used in the hull and a lack of testing performed on the hull to measure its ability to withstand the intense pressures of deep waters.
Just a few months earlier, former OceanGate employee David Lochridge raised concerns in an inspection report which identified "numerous issues that posed serious safety concerns", including how the hull had been tested.
