On Aug. 30, the housing ministry briefed the Amato on potential tools available to amend the Greenbelt.
On the Greenbelt land itself, the government said that at least 50,000 homes would be built, with construction beginning no later than 2025.

Staff with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing had already allocated housing targets in late October 2022 for those 1.5 million homes before the proposed changes to the Greenbelt.
The backtrack means they know that they are being watched, and hopefully, it is a sign that other communities can start to fight back for all the previously protected Greenbelt land to be reversed and protected.”
The bill will return 15 sites to the Greenbelt while also codifying the boundaries so that any future changes would need to be done in the legislature, as opposed to regulation.
