According to respected astronomy writer Alan Pickup: "The Geminids shower boasts the highest meteor rates of any of our annual showers and, for once, this year’s return occurs at a time when we have no interference from moonlight."
In 2022, photographer Wil Cheung captured a stunning picture of a shooting star streaking across the sky behind the now-felled Sycamore Gap during the Geminids Meteor Shower, with the temperature at a chilling -9°C.

The Geminids meteor shower—which one of the “best and most reliable” yearly meteor showers—returned on Sunday and is slated to run through December 24, with a peak in three weeks, though no equipment is required to see it.
The month also features the Geminids, the brightest and most prolific meteor shower each year.
The space rock is responsible for the Geminids.
