On December 21, 2023, the Supreme Court reserved judgement in the appeal filed by Yusuf, challenging the verdict of the Court of Appeal and the State Election Petitions Tribunal, which removed him from office and declared Gawuna as winner.

The Governorship Candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna has urged his supporters to turn out en masse to vote for the APC in March 11 Governorship and State Assembly elections.
The INEC returning officer, Ahmad Ibrahim, announced that Yusuf won the election with 1,019,602 votes, while Gawuna got 890,705 votes.
