Franchise vet Russell T Davies, who reclaimed the reins as showrunner beginning with the three anniversary specials, “is here to take into a new era,” Gatwa attests in the TVLine Q&A above.
Gatwa, 31, was born in the city of Kigali in Rwanda on 15 October 1992, during the country’s civil war.
Gatwa is the first black actor to be cast as the Doctor, with the announcement made in March that he’ll replace Jodie Whittaker under returning showrunner Russell T Davies.
Gatwa was raised mostly in Dunfermline and Edinburgh where he attended Boroughmuir High School and Dunfermline High School, before moving to Glasgow to study acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
