A Catholic bishop has condemned the “gruesome” assasination of Gov. Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental and five others on Saturday.
Allowing other resource persons to take part remotely in the Senate inquiry “undermines the value and importance of our presence in the hearing and it is unfair to those who will be attending personally,” Degamo said further.

Also at the hearing, Andres said five of the 11 detained suspects in the Degamo slay case have affirmed their recantations, insisting that they were just coerced into admitting their participation in the crime and to implicate Teves in the killings.

Aside from this, Dera is also accused of acting as a bagman of Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., who is suspected of being the mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.
But Degamo wants the new region to include four provinces by creating a third one from Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental to Escalante City in Negros Occidental.
It could be remembered that Teves, accused of masterminding the killing of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, tried to apply for asylum in Timor Leste.
MANILA, Philippines — A panel of prosecutors has indicted Marvin Miranda, tagged as one of the masterminds in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight others.
Marcos said the killing of Degamo is “unacceptable and it will not stand.”
Teves, currently in the United States, was being named by arrested suspects as the mastermind in the murder of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
Topacio added that he fears Justice Department officials have become desperate after ten of the witnesses in the killing of Degamo withdrew their testimonies against Teves and Miranda — tagging the latter as the DOJ’s “last card” against Teves.
“We almost have all the people as part of the team that attacked Governor Degamo and almost all of them are in custody except for one or two who we are eyeing to be really involved in the plan,” he said.
