Byard and Tennessee did rework his contract in July just before training camp, leaving him with a base salary of $4 million this season and $9.6 million in 2024 in a deal carrying no dead hit against the salary cap.
Byard, a third-rounder in 2016 who has twice been named a First Team All-Pro, would be a massive move for the Patriots defense.
